The aim of PSF is to provide cloning, expression screening and protein production services as well as access to instrumentation for high throughput crystallography and biophysical characterization to facilitate research activities for academic research groups . The PSF platform is utilizing the methodologies developed and implemented by the Structural Genomics Consortium 2005-2011.

Becoming a user:

To become a user on the platform contact Helena Berglund (cloning and protein production, general inquiries), Tomas Nyman (biophysics), Martin Moche (protein crystallography).

User fees and billing:

The academic user fee is comprised of consumables, instruments and university OH. Staff and rent is covered by Karolinska Institutet, SciLifeLab and VR-SWEDSTRUCT.

Charges for services and instrument access are based costs for consumables, equipment running costs, maintenance and depreciation. Commercial users pay full costs including staff, premises and an added margin.

All experimental work will be included in the invoices for cloning and protein production services.

Projects/samples that fail during technically successful experiments are transferred back to the user together with generated data. Additional investigation or problem solving is not automatically initiated by PSF but can be performed after discussion and agreement with the user. Failed samples can also re-enter the project queue and be treated with minor modifications to the standard process.

Instrument access charges will be based on users recording actual instrument use in log-books. Recurring failures to do so will result in a penalty fee and instrument access being revoked.
Invoices will be sent quarterly and subject to 30 days net payment terms.
Invoice dates: Feb 28, May 30, Aug 31 and Nov 30.


To help PSF in future evaluations and applications all users are required to acknowledge experimentation or services performed at PSF in manuscripts submitted for publication.

To become a ”dedicated user” on the platform with guaranteed access over long time (% of staff hours, or % instrument time) full cost coverage is required. To this end we are happy to participate in collaborative grant applications to fund such projects.
